I am not a natural morning person - I love to roll over for another wee snooze. However, based on feedback from my clients I began to provide early morning classes from last autumn. In running these classes I have discovered that Early Mornings ROCK!!
Folks show up in there yoga gear, or in their nightclothes or whatever is handy. In the comfort of there own home through Zoom I facilitate a morning Yoga session. They move and stretch set an intention and float into the day! And I too reap the benefits - I saunter up to my kitchen happy in the fact that I have already done something worthwhile and health enriching before breakfast, before some other members of my household have rolled out of their bed. I feel energised and focused. I enjoy my breakfast and get loads of tasks done before I know it. . Mornings now feel natural for this sleepy head!! Could you be part of this rebellion against the rollover? The Morning classes runs for 30minutes, (Mondays at 6:45AM - 7:15AM ) poses are accessible to most people and the little community is welcoming but quiet. If you would like to try a class do contact me directly or book via the website. You will not regret it!! Contact Fidelma on 086 3790855 It has been a Spring of many seasons - lovely warm freckle making days followed by icy cold chapped lips inducing ones! I have had a bit of craic dabbling in fermenting vegetables and mixing mouth watering pestos. It has struck me how the preparation of food is a real vehicle for exploring all your senses and practicing awareness and in the moment living.
Don't get me wrong there are evenings I throw a random selection of ingredients in a pot in a hurry....just to get it done. But I try to set a time aside to actually follow a plan ( mine or someone else's) in the preparation. When I say plan - the plan is only that I am not rushing and trying to feed the world and it's meat eating mother at the one time. It is when I say I have this time, I have these ingredients, I have this equipment. In these occasions I enjoy the process so much more - the colours are more vivid, the smells more inviting, the mechanics of chopping, reaching, stirring, lifting more interesting, the sounds of the pots, the boil more acceptable. See the mad pink stuff - Kvass and the gooey green stuff - wild garlic pesto!! So maybe your yoga for today is to smell the food, observe your multi-functioning hands, feel the texture of the ingredients, see the colours, taste the results of your efforts. Mindful Moments - Yoga everyday. ![]() Hello Everyone, Here we are at Easter....the time seems to have rolled by quickly - we are now coming to the end of our second 6 week term of 2021! Our morning classes are now beginning with the sun up and our evening sessions also have the daylight as they begin. Nature keeps turning no matter what. I hope that you get out to see the blue skies, daffodils, primroses, pale green on new growth and the sun shines for you ( even if it is metaphorical!) Thank you for turning up and taking part this term. I am very grateful for Your participation and enthusiasm. I have been reflecting on how in the last year I have gone from saying - 'no way people will want to attend classes on zoom', to feeling like I really couldn't teach without being in the room, to accepting that Zoom classes are here to stay on some level. Zoom does provide the chance to come to an early session in your pyjamas in the comfort of your own home. One big advantage of Zoom is that I have friends from across the country joining the weekly classes. It is a real blessing to see buddies from different parts of my life on the screen - not to mention a niece or two joining in from Dublin! I do miss the 'reading of the room', the surety that everybody is getting what I am instructing. I am fearful that lots of communication is lost and as a result the class is less. I miss the casual interaction. I have had to change my mindset to accept that though communication is not as before for me as a teacher (it is like I have lost one of my senses - the unconscious cues one picks up on when in the same space as other people) - these classes are not are a means to facilitate you to practice Your Yoga as well as possible in the constraints of the time we live in. So perhaps the physical distance helps to foster in you a sense that the classes are for you, to enable you, to build your strength, to facilitate your discovery of the power you have innately. I do look forward to being able to offer the in-person experience again but in the mean-time we will work with the resources we have at this moment in time and take the blessings that come with the technology. I hope that our zoom classes are going someway to provide the guidance and space you need in your life now. The Covid pandemic has brought many changes for children including routine mask wearing, restrictions on movement in classrooms, restrictions on attendance at sports trainings, play-dates, music lessons and school classes. There is constant hand-washing and reduced hugging and hand-holding. Lots to take in for adults not mind our developing small humans. Yoga is a popular 'go-to' for strength in mind and body for adults and it's tools are adaptable so that they can be used by children as-well.
As one would expect the delivery of yoga classes to children differs considerably to that of an adult yoga class. It is livelier, it can be interactive, it involves imagination and can be more physically demanding. Yoga has many benefits for children which are especially useful in an ever-shifting environment the Covid pandemic era. 1) It can be practiced from home with the whole family while restrictions are in place (Zoom) 2) Yoga helps develop self-awareness and confidence in expression of feelings. 3) The practice is non-competitive and fosters acceptance of oneself and others. 4) In yoga we 'travel' even while we remain in the home through use of imagination, poses, stories and more. 5) Yoga builds physical strength. 6) Yoga facilitates the exploration of how we breathe and how different breaths make you feel. 7) Yoga teaches children how to be calm. 8) Yoga enhances focus and concentration. A new term of Yoga will begin soon on Zoom with Fidelma from Renmore Yoga and are geared for kids age 7 and up. idelma has 12 years experience of teaching Yoga to Children and includes mindfulness, travel, science and lots more in her lively and interactive classes. May 2021 bring you lots of joy. ![]() So I have been missing the craic in the kids yoga classes that I normally run afterschool. The energy and fun in a kids yoga class is very different to the adult yoga classes. Calm and quiet replaced with action, stories and pockets of quiet. Unlike a general Yoga class where adults come in and move quietly often with eyes closed and in silence, Interaction, Imagination, Improvisation and Input from the kids are all part and parcel of the kids yoga class. Together we travel on adventures and move our bodies to bring the characters to life. The fun begins again on November 5th at 4:30 pm when the Renmore Kids Yoga / Ióga do pháistí winter time 6 week term begins on Zoom. Our new term is suited to children form age 7 up to 12 years. It will be a little different to the usual set up as one can't beat 'in-person' classes. However it will offer families the chance to attend together if they like and despite a pandemic we travel to far-flung places earthly and beyond! Yoga is beneficial for kids as it develops positive body awareness, strength the ability to collaborate and confidence. It explores ways to self-regulate through breathing techniques and tuning into feelings. It helps children know their own boundaries and respect that of others. The class is gentle and fun. If you would like to learn more or book a place. Contact Fidelma 086 3790855 or go to www.renmoreyoga.com How do you relate to planning for the road ahead?
Planning is one of those words that induces yawns in the majority of people. It is a word associated with budgets, work, county councils, politicians.... How do you respond to the question 'What are your plans for...?'. Does an answer flow with clarity and purpose or do you winch and retreat from the question? What if one thought of planning as a 'super-tool' for clarity, empowerment and fulfillment? Planning as means of management of your time and energy so that you get the best out of life. Planning to allow you to 'own' your own time and energy. Planning to facilitate your intentions coming to fruition. Little steps make planning easy and maybe as we float into a New Year these steps maybe helpful for you. Step 1: Create Space Set an intention to include a few minutes of 'nothing' in your day. Set up a space, a time, a routine to allow this to happen each day. Make a deal with yourself to sit / stand / lie in your space for 10 breaths, greeting each one with your full awareness. Don't be dis-heartened when something gets in the way come back the next day and begin again! Do this for 10 days in a row and see how the habit forms and the 'nothing' creates space. The regularity of the practice comes from setting a time each day to practice. Step 2: Know what you value Write a list of the 5 most important things in your life. Step 3: Know how you spend your time and energy. Do you spend your time and energy on what you you value or is it dissipated on things that don't nourish you? List approximately how much of your time you spend at different activities. e.g. social media, netflix, with loved ones, talking, listening to music, dancing, singing, exercising, worrying, cooking, cleaning, eating, shopping, working.... Step 4: Identify the energy sinks and energy givers. What activities replenish and nourish you? Which drain you of energy? When you examine the time you give to activities is there balance between the nourishing ones and the draining ones? What would you prefer to give less energy to? Step 5: Balance your spreadsheet Ensure that you balance the spreadsheet of your nourishing valuable activities with those which are functional and draining. Set realistic, achievable and measurable goals to begin the process of ensuring that you are giving your time and energy to things you value. Write them down, Begin with little steps. Step 6: Regularly and kindly Review on how things are going. Take time at a comfortable part of your week to check how you are getting on. Reflect on your successes. Note intentions which were not met is there potential for learning from them? If things are succeeding great. Make sure you acknowledge your efforts and achievements. If things are not happening as you hoped, try and identify why...maybe the goal was not realistic when balanced with other commitments in your life. Be kind to yourself and dispassionately break the goals down into smaller steps and lovingly try again. For many years I ran music classes for toddlers and their caregivers. Every September our autumn term began with an 'on the farm' theme...the opening song about a rooster call always makes me smile so I have paraphrased it's content in the title .....if I wrote the whole song down I would be disowned by the resident teenager.....the eye rolls are palpable as I find myself humming the tune......Anyway Morning Sun has risen, it's time to rise and shine ...for it is morning time........move that fantastic body, feel your breath, know your mind, invest in yourself!! The programme below gives a taste of what our 6:45AM Mondays and Wednesdays offers you..... https://youtu.be/epr_Hf9WKk8 Well Autumn is truly here! How is it going for you?
Are you getting time for self-care ? Commitment to look after yourself physically and mentally is as important as all those commitments to others. But when you ask?? How you ask? 6:45AM Mondays and Wednesdays - 30 minutes Yoga - Zoom! Set yourself up for the Autumn with a morning practice of yoga!
